Power of Knowing: The Patient and Caregiver Experience
Understanding comes from knowing. The healthcare system can be very complicated and hard to navigate for patients and caregivers during the time of serious illness. Patient and caregivers do not always feel respected or understood or that communication is what is needed. Methods to gather needed information from health care providers, clarify goals of care, and available community resources will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
• Learn how to get information about a diagnosis and treatment options
• Learn about resources that might be helpful during an illness for patients and caregivers
• Learn about the importance of good communication, how to clarify goals of care, and feel respected in the health care relationship
